Japanese Woodblock Prints at the MFA

One really great thing about Mass Art is that its right next door to the excellent Museum of Fine Arts Boston or the MFA. One really great thing about the MFA is its collection of Japanese and Chinese art. Currently they have a show, of Japanese woodblock prints, up called "Women of Renown: Female Heroes and Villains in the Prints of Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797-1861)" that is really amazing. Work like this has been influencing my work for at least a year and really some of my personal favorite types art. The combinations of line work, pattern and simple color are gorgeous and the compositions and storytelling are really entertaining and in most cases just bizarre. Here is an online preview of the show.
